Poetry in the Present

"Poetry is the clear expression of mixed feelings"

Poetry in the Present

By: Owen Soccorso

I named my poetry website Poetry in the Present because I think it is important for people to realize that poetry is not a thing of the past, and that it is not just for old white men. There is poetry everywhere, in everything. Poetry is not restricted to words on paper. In this website, you will find five original works of poetry, a poetry performance video, a poetry analysis, and a social justice reflection.

One of my poems is in Latin. To view it in Latin (translation provided),

Don't Think Poetry Is Right For You?

Maybe conventional poetry isn't your cup of tea, but there are many diffeernt types. Painting, music, and found poetry are great ways of exploring poetry. For an example of an unconventional poetry peice,

"Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words"

~Robert Frost

"A film is never really good unless the camera is an eye in the head of a poet"

-Orson Welles
